I’m excited and proud of my very first article for pay: DIRT RICH, in the Summer 2011 issue of RANGE magazine.
Here is a link to the article: DIRT RICH0001
RANGE has a unique mission–it is dedicated to the preservation of the American cowboy and targeted to issues in the West. The magazine is a labor of love for the editor, CJ Hadley.
Here is a link to an interview with CJ. She’s a fascinating person, full of passion and commitment. I hope to write more for RANGE and many other publications, too!
One of these days, I will update the information about my writing journey. I learn more every day. I am lucky to have found three separate and brilliant mentors: an editor, a teacher, and a “muse”. They each contribute to my growth and development in different ways. Much more on that later….

AWESOME!! Congrats! Oh yeah, and great article!
Oh, Suz, what a treat to read your article. Another amazing feat by my amazing friend. I’m sure your own father is smiling down, probably not saying “I’ll be damned; you’re still here” but more like “See, the world finally understands that you are as special as I always claimed you were.”
Oh my Tailwinds, I just finished reading your beautiful article. I see you learned a lot while writing this piece. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. You have a way of keeping the reader interested and involved. You paint such a real picture. I love seeing your name in print at the end.
Not only did I enjoy reading your writing but this area in Wyoming has special meaning to me. In 1962 I went to a private high school in Steamboat Springs, Co. My boyfriend at this school was Jim Miller from the Miller Ranch in Pinedale. I’d always wanted to marry a cattle rancher. I never visited Jim’s family ranch. After many, many years I decided to visit Jim and called. Whoever answered told me he’d just recently died from an infection contracted in the hospital after a horseback-riding fall.
I met a man while attending a “meeting” in Pinedale two years ago who told me more facts about my old boyfriend Jim. I guess we shared some of the same problems that made us difficult to live with. Sigh.
You are an amazing woman and an equally amazing writer. It won’t be long now that many will know this too.
